High School Playbook

 Scottsburg and Madison Shawe were set to open their seasons against each other in a game that the Warriors were favored to win.  Scottsburg struck out the first three Shawe batters to open, and proceeded to beat them 20 to nothing in three innings. 

 Coming off a heartbreaking conference loss to Clarksville, Scottsburg was looking to bounce back against potential sectional opponent South Dearborn.  As luck would have it many times already this year, the Warriors struggled to throw the ball over the plate, and dug an insurmountable hole early, as the Knights took the victory. 

 Scottsburg's leadoff hitter, Johnny Pace, hit another homerun to start out the game, but his team still fell short in the end.  Clarksville was in need of redemption as they lost at Scottsburg as the Warriors scored 6 late inning runs to comeback.  No comeback this time, as the Generals take the cake, 7-6.

 Things started out well for the Warriors, as Johnny Pace would start out the game with a leadoff homerun, putting his team ahead.  There would be no run production until late in the game from then on.  Run production wasn't the main problem for Scottsburg, however, as walks, errors, a big hit or two got Charlestown the 15-5 win. 

 The Warriors came into this season's county rival game hoping to change their luck, but it wouldn't turn out as they had hoped.  Austin's hitting was still too strong, and the Scottsburg pitching too weak, as the Eagles pulled off the 10-0 win on the road.

 Last season's Scottsburg/Salem game ended in a 2-1, Scottsburg victory, so the Warriors were looking to keep that going this year on their home field.  Both teams would have a hard time scoring runs, as the score would be 0-0 going into the sixth inning.  But the Lions roared, scoring three runs, to pull of the 3-1 win after the Warrior seventh fell short. 

 Scottsburg started out their week at home against Seymour, but the Owls proved to be too much for the Warriors, as they would take the game easily, 12-2.

Due to rain, the Warriors would have to play their scheduled home game at Silver Creek, wearing their whites and acting as the home team.  But it would not matter for the Dragons, as it was home sweet home.  The Creek had a big first inning, giving them a large lead early.  Both teams would slowly add more runs, but the Warriors got really close in the bottom half of the seventh with Zack Gerth hit his fifth dinger of the season, for three runs, bringing the score to 6-7.  But that would be the final score, with the Dragons holding on for the conference win.

 It was senior night for four Warriors, and they had every intention of going out in style.  Wins had been hard to come by this season, and they wanted their hard work from toddler to adult to be showcased in their final home game.  It was, as Senior and starting pitcher threw a one hitter to help guide the team to a 2-0 win.  Nick King played a flawless shortstop, as Nathan Hall did at first base.  And Johnny Pace hit 1.000 for the game, as well as making a sliding catch to save the no-hitter in the sixth that Green would ultimately lose in the seventh. 

 Scottsburg won in dramatic fashion for their four seniors earlier in the week, but couldn't pull off their road game against North Harrison.

In their final tune-up game before sectional, Scottsburg got routed by state-ranked Jeffersonville. 

With one game left, the Warriors hoped to nullify their 4-21 record. 

There would be no Cinderella story for Scottsburg, as Batesville knocked them off for the second straight season. 

What started out at around 50 players the same age in the Scottsburg Little League season had dwindled to 4 players by their senior year; Johnny Pace, Nick King, Nathan Hall, and Bobby Green.  Those four completed something many others could not, as they said their goodbyes together.
